POLS TALKS announces,
“Back to a divided continent? Europe 25 years after the collapse of the
iron curtain”
Abstract: “The conflict between Russia and the West turned from a stage of
pragmatic competition into direct confrontation in 2014. The annexation
of Crimea and the conflict in Eastern Ukraine pose huge challenges for
Europe. Do we face a return to the Cold War? What are the risks of further
escalation? This lecture deals with the evolution of relations between
East and West and the confrontation over Ukraine. It
looks at deeper structural problems behind the current conflict, related
to Russia’s position in Europe and clashing integration projects.”
The lecture is held by Dr. Tom Casier, Academic Director of the Brussels
School of International Studies (BSIS) of the University of Kent. He holds
a Jean Monnet Chair and is an expert on EU-Russia relations and
coordinates an international research project on this subject.
