GREENEASTMED

The GREENEASTMED project aspires to continue on the footpath of the JM@BILK and TURKDEM, the previous Jean Monnet chair projects of Dr. Ioannis N. Grigoriadis at Bilkent University, and promote in multiple innovative and interdisciplinary ways the promotion of EU studies in Bilkent University and beyond. Innovative teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate courses on European history, politics, EU-Turkey relations and EU politics comprises the first pillar of the project. The second pillar promotes cutting-edge research in some of the most crucial fields of EU politics: EU-Turkey relations, EU foreign policy, the EU Green Deal, energy transition in Turkey and the Eastern Mediterranean, Greek-Turkish relations, and the Cyprus issue. The preparation of new courses and the reorganization of existing ones in EU studies will be supplemented by organising several activities targeted not only to students of Bilkent University and other universities in Ankara. They will also target young professionals who have some basic understanding of the European Union and wish to improve it. Civic skills development will be another crucial parameter of the GREENEASTMED project. Students and other participants will be invited to think and discuss how they could personally make a difference in energy transition. Besides the publication of opinion pieces, there will be plenty of other instruments for participation in the public sphere in Turkey and beyond. Teaching courses on EU studies and organizing learning events about the European Union is even more important now. Turkish civil society needs the support of EU institutions, and GREENEASTMED aspires to become instrumental in that direction. The project will last from 1 September 2022 to 31 August 2025.
