Biographical Note

Vahram Ter-Matevosyan specializes in Turkish domestic and foreign policy, Regional Security and Conflicts in the post-Soviet Space. He has received his Dr. Philosophy Degree from the University of Bergen (Norway), Master’s degree from Lund University (Sweden), Candidate of historical sciences degree from the Institute of Oriental Studies and Yerevan State University (Armenia). He was Visiting Professor at Duke University, NC (2016), Fulbright Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, CA (2009-2010) and Visiting Doctoral Student at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA (2005). He authored an award-winning monograph “Islam in the Social and Political Life of Turkey, 1970-2001” in 2008 and co-authored “History of Turkish Republic” in 2014. His research articles have been published in “Nations and Nationalism”, “Europe-Asia Studies”, “Turkish Studies”, “Middle Eastern Studies”, “Insight Turkey”, “Eurasian Geography and Economics”, “Turkish Review”, “Caucasus Survey”, “Journal of Southeast European and Black Sea Studies”, “Iran and the Caucasus”, “Diaspora Studies”, “Études Arméniennes Contemporaines”, and “Caucasus Analytical Digest”.  

Book Presentation Panel (Nicosia: Journalists’ Hearth, 18.03.19)

On 18 March 2019 Dr. Ioannis N. Grigoriadis participated in a panel presentation of his latest Greek-language book entitled “Sisyphus in Anatolia: 150 Articles and Photographs on Turkey”, which took place at Dimosiografiki Estia (Journalists’ Hearth), Nicosia on Monday 18 March 2019. The event was organized by the Secretariat of Intercommunal Cooperation and the Organization of Young Scientists (ONE) of the Democratic Rally (DISY) party. Speakers included Averof Neofytou, President of DISY, Harris Georgiades, Minister of Finance, Nicos Tornaritis, Parliamentary Leader of DISY, Marios Pelekanos, President of ONE and Rena Choplarou, head of the Secreteriat of Intercommunal Cooperation. Participation in FEUTURE Panel Discussion (Athens: ELIAMEP, 21.02.19)

Dr. Ioannis N. Grigoriadis participated in a panel discussion on EU-Turkey relations entitled “EU-Turkey Relations: What Policy Challenges?: Security and Energy”. The event was held on Thursday 21 February 2019 at the conference room of the Representation of the European Commission in Greece, in the framework of the project “EU-Turkey Relations: Mapping Dynamics and Future Scenarios (FEUTURE).” The project was funded by the European Commission (Horizon 2020), and the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) was one of the partners. Dr. George Markopouliotis, head of the Representation of the European Commission in Greece, Dr. Thanos Dokos, general director of ELIAMEP, Dr. Panagiota Manoli, University of the Peloponnese and Prof. Panayotis Tsakonas, University of the Aegean, were the other speakers. Newspaper Article (Ta Nea, 02.02.19)

Dr. Ioannis N. Grigoriadis authored on 2 February 2019 an article on the upcoming visit of the Greek Prime Minister to Turkey, which appeared on the Greek daily “Ta Nea”. The full text is available here.
