Dr. Ioannis N. Grigoriadis has published a new academic article with Ms. Esra Dilek in the framework of his Jean Monnet Chair research. The article is entitled “Struggling for the Kurdish vote: religion, ethnicity and victimhood in AKP and BDP/HDP rally speeches” and appeared in “Middle Eastern Studies”. Interview to Emre Hatipoglu (New York: Columbia University, 03.11.17)

Dr. Ioannis N. Grigoriadis gave an interview on 3 November 2017 to Dr. Emre Hatipoğlu, Associate Professor of Political Science at Sabancı University and Visiting Scholar at Columbia University. The interview was held on the occasion of the presentation of the book of Dr. Grigoriadis ”
Democratic Transition and The Rise of Populist Majoritarianism: Constitutional Reform in Greece and Turkey (Springer, 2017)” at the Middle East Institute. Grigoriadis discussed populist majoritarianism, the reasoning behind comparing Greece and Turkey, the impact of populist majoritarianism on society, and the lessons to be learnt from the Greek experience.

Newspaper Article (Ta Nea, 27.10.17)

Dr. Ioannis N. Grigoriadis authored on 27 October 2017 an article on the Kurdish referendum in Northern Iraq and the views of Iraq’s neighbours, which appeared on the Greek daily “Ta Nea”. The full text is available here.

New Jean Monnet Chair Grant (TURKDEM)

Dr. Ioannis N. Grigoriadis has been named as one the recipients of this year’s Jean Monnet Chair grant competition. His new chair project is entitled “TURKDEM-Promoting Human Rights and Democracy” and will run from 1 September 2017 to 31 August 2020 at the Department of Political Science & Public Administration, Bilkent University.

Newspaper Article (Kathimerini, 18.04.17)

Dr. Ioannis N. Grigoriadis authored on 18 April 2017 an article on the result of Turkey’s constitutional referendum and its political ramifications, which appeared on the Greek daily “Kathimerini”. The full text is available here.

Participation in KAS Workshop, 22-23.07.2016

Dr. Ioannis N. Grigoriadis participated in the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Workshop entitled “Challenges and Prospects of the Eastern Mediterranean Region”,  which took place at Villa Collina, Cadenabbia, Italy, on 22-23 July 2016. His presentation was entitled “Resolving the Cyprus Question: The Role of the European Union” and was held on 22 July 2016.

Participation in Jean Monnet Summer School-09.07.16

Dr. Ioannis N. Grigoriadis participated in the Jean Monnet Athens Summer School 2016 entitled “Moving the EU Forward”, which was organized by the Institute of European Integration and Policy (IEIP), School of Economics and Political Sciences, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens between 4 and 10 July 2016. His presentation was held on 9 July 2016 and was entitled “The Migration Crisis: Greece, Turkey and the European Union.

The “Athens Summer School” was an intensive interdisciplinary 6 day course (33 teaching hours), that provided comprehensive knowledge on the different aspects of the economic crisis and the key challenges that Europe faces in the post-crisis era. How and to what extent is the EU crisis considered as an opportunity for moving the EU forward? What lessons can be learned? Which challenges face the EU and how can we deal with them to move the EU forward?  The lectures focused on these key questions, aiming to illuminate, analyze and encourage further discussion about how EU policies and politics are (re)shaped in the aftermath of the current EU economic crisis.
